Little Blue Heron

Little Blue Heron

Egretta caerulea

View in taxonomic table

The Little Blue Heron is very rare in Argentina.  We saw it in the Ibera Marshes, close to our reserve in 2013 and it attracted a lot of attention.

The adult bird is greyish blue with a reddish hue around the neck.  The bill is long and straight with a very slight downcurve and a dark blue tip.

The juvenile starts off white then gradually attains its blue colour as in the photo above.
