Monk Parakeet

Monk Parakeet

Myiopsitta monachus

View in taxonomic table

The Monk Parakeet is a beautifully marked Parakeet that is abundant throughout north and central Argentina.  It is often persecuted due to its communal nesting behaviour and noisy disposition.

It is predomanantly bright green with a grey forehead and throat.  The breast gives the impression of being wavy grey/white.  The trailing edge of the wing is a bright blue which is normally seen in flight
