Velvety Myotis

Velvety Myotis

Myotis simus

This beautiful little Myotis bat appeared in our Harp trap inside the woodland nearest to the houses that we call Monte Casa.  Its strong colour diferenciates it from the other Myotis species that we have at the reserve.

It is very small with dorsal fur strongly reddish/orange.  The ventral fur is bicoloured with bright cinnamon tips and the membranes are almost black.  This is a very manouevrable bat which favours hunting in cluttered environments.
