We're delighted to have a strong population of strange-tailed tyrants at the reserve. So much so that we've adopted these beautiful and endangered birds as the symbol of the Trust
We have several of this species at Reserva Don Luis. It tends to favour the wetter areas of which we have plenty.
A member of the Furnariidae family, it resembles the Greater Thornbird but has less intensively yellow eyes, is a little smaller at 16cm and has a speckled breast. It has a rufous cap, wings and outer retrices of tail which is spiny like many other members of this family. LIke other members of this genus it builds a large hangng nest of twigs.
It has a loud and very distinctive call.
